Underwater

The team has extensive experience of underwater filming, which complements our storytelling above the water, bringing fresh perspectives to subvert known narratives.

A true specialist in the Antarctic region, having made six expeditions to the continent, Erebus’ director Roberto Palozzi is a long-time collaborator with Italy’s Antarctic programme (PNRA) across both scientific and documentary projects. His expeditions have included dozens of dives through holes in the pack ice to film underwater life at 75° south latitude, giving him unparalleled experience documenting these waters.

He was the first Italian to shoot underwater images under the Antarctic polar cap at these latitudes for TG2 Dossier. His technical and polar dives also include the waters of Norway’s Svalbard Islands, and he is a qualified diving instructor.

Erebus have filmed under pack ice in Antarctica, over ancient Roman cities in the Mediterranean, in Mexico’s cenotes, and dived in the deepest sinkhole in the world with world-record holding diver Jim Bowden.

Using innovative electronic closed circuit rebreathers (ECCRs), the most advanced diving systems available, the team are able to get closer to wildlife without disturbing them, and dive deeper, for longer.
